The Government of India has planned to announce Lockdown 5.0 for the coming two weeks and it will be strictly implemented in 13 cities that have 70% of severe cases of COVID-19. According to a senior government official, the Ministry of Home Affairs will soon issue a revised guidelines.
The Home Minister Amit Shah met Prime Minister Modi on Friday and suggested to give the feedback he received from the State Chief Ministers. Mr. Shah had called all the Chief Minsters of the respective states on Thursday and confirmed their views on extending the lockdown.
Lockdown 5.0 to be strictly implemented in 13 cities
According to the new relaxations planned, all the religious places will be allowed to open, but the restaurants and malls are expected to remain shut. The first lockdown was imposed on March 24 and has been extended four times. The ongoing phase is imposed till May 31.
Metro trains unlikely
Metro Trains will not be in service as most of the routes fall in the containment zones in cities.
Rajiv Gauba, the Cabinet Secretary held a meeting with the municipal commissioners and the district magistrates on Thursday discussing on the 13 worst COVID-19 affected cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Thane, Hyderabad, Indore (MP), Kolkata/Howrah, Jaipur (Rajasthan), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), and Thiruvallur & Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu).
The State Governments will be given autonomy on imposing MHA’s guidelines that is issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. “States can improvise them or dilute the provisions,” said the official. Markets were allowed to open in the fourth phase. Schools and other educational institutions will remain shut till the next announcement.
