New Delhi. In a heartbreaking incident, Navjot Singh, a 52-year-old Deputy Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, lost his life, and his wife, Sandeep, aged 50, sustained serious injuries on Sunday when their motorcycle was struck by a speeding BMW in the Dhaula Kuan area of Delhi. The accident took place on Ring Road near Metro Pillar number 67 as the couple was on their way home.
According to police reports, the BMW, allegedly driven by a woman from Gurugram, first collided with the central divider before crashing into the couple’s motorcycle. The force of the impact caused their bike to hit a bus. The driver of the BMW, along with her husband, who was in the car, hurriedly took the injured couple to a hospital located about 17 kilometers away from the scene of the accident.
Navnoor Singh, the couple’s son, shared that the choice of hospital was intentional, as it was a smaller facility far from the crash site and lacked adequate trauma care. He expressed his belief that his father might have survived if they had been taken to a closer, better-equipped hospital. Sadly, Navjot Singh was pronounced dead upon arrival, while his wife is currently receiving treatment for severe injuries, including a head injury and multiple fractures.
The police have opened a case and seized both vehicles involved in the crash. The driver of the BMW has been taken into custody for further investigation.n
