Ballia (Uttar Pradesh): A senior official in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district was suspended after videos emerged of him and a team of home guards beating people randomly during the mask checking drive.
In this one-minute clip, Sub Divisional Magistrate Ashok Choudhary and his team were seen forcing two mask men out of a shop and thrashing them with their sticks. The clip also showed that the men are trying to shield themselves and asking the home guards, “What is this Sir?.. What is this misbehaviour?”

In the footage, one of the men who were assaulted by the home-guards- an auxiliary to the police who helped in maintaining the internal security, was seen bleeding.
“Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ballia, Ashok Chaudhary has been suspended from his post with an immediate effect”, said in a government order.
More clips also emerged, assaulting people at a complex including an eldery person who wasn’t wearing his mask properly. Social media is fed with the videos showing the arbitrary use of the powers of police personnel on the common people during the pandemic coronavirus.
Uttar Pradesh has recorded a death 95 deaths due to COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the total death counts of 2,733. Total numbers of active cases climbed to 1.72,334, released by the government. The total number of recovery and getting discharged from hospital reaches to 1,21,090.
