“What Should we do Cry Or Laugh?”: Akhilesh Yadav on Cow Dung as Covid ‘Remedy’

Coronavirus : Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday tweeted on a video from capital of Gujarat Ahmedabad – A video that shows men fully covering themselves with cow dung and urine in belief it will protect them against COVID-19.

A confused Mr. Yadav tweeted on this “What should we do ‘Cry or Laugh’?”.

Attached to this he uploaded a video from a report news agency that shows a school called the SGVP Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Vishwavidya Pratishthanam, where some people once in a week go to put cow dung and urine in their bodies, hug cows and practice yoga.

The video showed a group of about dozen of men sitting shirtless in a field with a bucket of liquefied cow dung in front of them. Each man put his hand on to the buckets and smeared handful of cow dung all over their body and head, before standing in the circle and chanting prayers.

Doctors and scientist has repeatedly warned people of trying any other treatment for Covid-19 virus saying that they can lead to a false way of treatment and therefore complicates health problem in a drastic manner.

“There is no concrete scientific evidence that cow dung or urine boost immunity against Covid-19,” Dr. JA Jayalal, the head of the Indian Medical Association, told Reuters.

“people should also understand that using excrete of cows is bound to increase the chance of some zoonotic or infectious disease spreading,” he added. It is not the first time something like this has happened where cow dung and urine are offered to a certain sections of the Indian society as a valuable treatment against the SARS-coV2 virus. Recently as last week a video shared by news agency ANI showed Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Surendra Singh, a controversial figure who last month was accused of making sexist remarks claims that drinking cow urine had protected him from COVID-19.
