New Delhi: An Ophthalmologist from Bengaluru Medical College Abdur Rahman has been arrested by Anti-Terror National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his link to ISIS operatives. Rahman was working on a medical application for helping the terrorists, the investigating officer said on Tuesday.
Abdur Rahman worked at MS Ramaiah Medical College and was arrested on Tuesday in connection with Islamic State Khorasan Province (IKSP) case being probed by NIA, they said. This case was initially registered by Delhi Police Cell in the month of March after the arrest of Kasmiri Couple- Hina Bashir Beig and her husband Jahanzaib Sami Wani from Okhla Vihar, New Delhi.

The couple was allegedly linked with ISKP which is an affiliate group of ISIS and was involved in subversive and other anti-national activities. They were in touch with a member of Abu Dhabi Abdullah Basith, who was arrested in a separate NIA case that was lodged in Tihar.
During interrogation, the accused Rahman confessed that he was conspiring with the accused Sami and the other Syria based ISIS operatives on the messaging platforms of further ISIS activities. He was developing a medical application for helping the injured ISIS cadres and a weaponry-related application for the benefit of ISIS fighters, NIA spokesperson Sonia Narang said to the reporters.
The NIA also found that Rahman has toured Syria and visited ISIS medical camp in the early 2014 for the treatment of the terrorists for 10 days and then came back to India.
After the arrest, the NIA carried out the premises and seized digital devices, a mobile phone and a laptop containing incriminating material, Sonia Naranf said.
Besides Rahman and the Kashmiri couple, NIA also arrested two Pune residents- Sadiya Anwar Shiekh and Nabeel Siddick Khatri for being the part of the conspiracy to further the activities of ISIS and carry out destructive activities in the grab of Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests.
