Five militants of Hizbul Mujahideen, including the top commander of the outfit were knocked-off on June 7 in the encounter with the security forces in Shopian district of J&K, the Police said.
A police spokesperson said that on the specific input, security forces launched a cordon and the search operation in the Reban area of South Kashmir. In the search operation in the Reban area, the militants were hiding and they opened fire at the search party of the forces, which were then retaliated to an encounter.

The spokesperson also said that the five Hizbul Mujahideen militant dead bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. As per the sources, the militants belonged to the Proscribed Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit and among all five of them, one is believed to be at the top of the commander.
The spokesperson also said that if in any circumstance a family claims that any of the killed militants to be their kith or kin, they can surely come forward for their identification.
All the incriminating materials like the arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter to be taken into records for further investigation in order to join the links of other terror crimes.
