The devoted yogis of yoga will tell you that yoga is not only the path of enlightenment but also a source of happiness. Various studies support this claim by pointing at yoga not only a general practice for quelling stress but also ease in anxiety and elevating mood.

Although there is not scientific analysis done of which particular yoga pose makes happy. Researches show that body posturing, respiration process and thinking positively that influence our physiology. With every reactions by the body, we experience hormonal reactions which prompt physical and mental manifestations such as crossing our arms when defensive or angry, crying when sad and smiling when happy.

Science proved that we can reverse the response of emotion to body by leveraging our mental and physical states in order to alter our present state response of emotion. For instance, even forced smile in a stressful situation, that generally we don’t do immediately lessens the stress response by eliciting happy hormone production.

Although everyone wants to be happy and I have been practicing Yoga myself and with the clients that is based on poses, meditation and breathing and I can happily attest the benefits.

Diaphragmatic Breathing :

It is the process of expanding and contracting your diaphragm to take long breaths. To stimulate this breathing first you have to inhale deeply for a five count to the lowest lobes of lungs. You have to focus on the lower ribs and avoid any arch in your midback.

Then you can exhale completely to empty your lungs. You can continue this for 90 seconds.

Warrior but not a Worrier :

Harvard study 2010 on “power posing” shown that by holding the open-body postures for at least two minutes increases testosterone and decreases cortisol. It is a confident-boosting hormone with less anxiety and self-assuredness. To practice this you have to open your body without crossing your limbs or slumping. You have to hold this and take five breaths on each side and total amount of time you have give is two minutes.

Relax and Remember :

Take your few minutes and focus on relaxing and happiness in order to be happy. According to a study of 2012, that shows that practicing “relaxation intervention” not just only reduces stress but also helps in healing of wound. That is why I give seven to this activity daily.
While relaxing, you can think of your happiness moments that will actually serve a simple and an effective form of meditation. Most people don’t like to follow this meditation and adding a fake smile also will definitely boost the propensity for happiness, thus reducing stress and elevating mood.
