KKR vs DC Highlights: Finn Allen’s Brutal 47-Ball Century Crusades KKR to a Dominant 8-Wicket Victory!

IPL 2026: KKR vs DC Match Report

IPL 2026 | MATCH REPORT | NEW DELHI | MAY 8

NEW DELHI — Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a highly clinical 8-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The dominant performance extended KKR’s impressive winning streak to four matches, keeping their playoff hopes firmly alive, while Delhi Capitals’ campaign suffered a significant setback on their home turf.

MATCH RESULT

DC: 142/8 (20.0)
VS
KKR: 147/2 (14.2)

Winner: Kolkata Knight Riders won by 8 wickets with 34 balls remaining

Player of the Match: Finn Allen (100* off 47 balls)

The Chase: Finn Allen’s Unstoppable Firepower

Pursuing a modest target of 143, KKR’s run chase did not get off to the smoothest start. They lost captain Ajinkya Rahane (13) and young wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi (1) inside the powerplay, slipping to a worrying 31/2.

However, Kiwi explosive opener Finn Allen staged a spectacular counter-attack. Partnering with Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, the duo systematically demolished the Delhi bowling attack with an unbeaten 116-run partnership for the third wicket.

Allen was in a league of his own, smashing a sensational 100* off just 47 deliveries. His high-octane knock was decorated with 5 boundaries and a colossal 10 sixes. In a picture-perfect finish, Allen brought up his maiden century of the season and sealed the victory for KKR simultaneously by launching a massive six.

Cameron Green played the perfect supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 33 off 27 balls. A memorable moment occurred in the 6th over when Green connected so powerfully with an Axar Patel delivery that the ball sailed 94 meters into the stands and was lost, forcing the umpires to bring out a replacement ball. KKR completed the chase in just 14.2 overs, giving a massive boost to their Net Run Rate.

First Innings: Delhi Batters Falter Against Quality KKR Spin

Earlier in the evening, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Delhi Capitals’ captain KL Rahul walked out to open the innings in what was a momentous occasion—his 250th T20 match and his 157th IPL appearance. He started aggressively, scoring 23 runs off 14 balls with 4 boundaries, before being dismissed in the 5th over. Rahul attempted to loft a slower delivery from Kartik Tyagi over the covers but mis-timed it, offering a catch to Cameron Green.

His opening partner, Pathum Nissanka, anchored the innings superbly. Nissanka scored a quick-fire 50 off 29 balls, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes. Despite his solid foundation, Delhi’s middle order fell apart. Tristan Stubbs (2), Sameer Rizvi (3), and Nitish Rana (8) departed in quick succession, struggling to cope with KKR’s spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine.

Narine was particularly outstanding, tightening the screws in the middle overs to finish with incredibly economical figures of 1/17 in his 4 overs. Kartik Tyagi (2/25) and Anukul Roy (2/31) also picked up crucial wickets at key moments. A late fighting cameo from Ashutosh Sharma, who made 39 off 28 balls, somehow pushed Delhi’s total to a respectable 142/8.

Tactical Analysis: The contrast in bowling standards was the defining factor of the match. While KKR’s spin unit controlled the game, Delhi’s bowlers looked toothless on a batting-friendly surface. DC’s premier spinner Kuldeep Yadav had a night to forget, going wicketless while leaking 41 runs in his 3 overs. Vipraj Nigam was also highly expensive, conceding 34 runs in his 2 overs.
