MAHUA MOITRA’S DATA PROTECTION BILL

Mahua Moitra, the MP of TMC stated that as being the member of the joint committee of the personal Data Protection Bill in 2019, the Orwelian nature of the Data Protection Bill is not the only reason of them for expressing their conflict notes to the final report but the improper functioning of the committee is also a reason behind this.

In her disputed record of Data Protection Bill, Mahua Moitra, the MP of Trinamool Congress party has called the Data Protection Bill “Orwelian” and also stated inadequacy of protection in bill provided overboard exemptions to the Government.

The MP of the Trinamool Congress party has said that for regulating the nonpersonal data they need to do a detailed study and separate framework of the Data Protection Bill.

The committee is not the only one to fail in introducing proper safeguards in clause 35 to prevent its misuse. Mahua Moitra also stated that many recommendations were made by the committee to empower the central government with more unqualified powers.

The bill named Data Protection Bill is brought in parliament in the year 2019 and is attempting to find the protection of the personal data of individuals and also planning for establishing a personal data protection authority for the same. On the demand of opposition members this Data Protection Bill is also referred to join the committee for further inquiry.
