BCCI has been busy this last week moving around the circle over a decision that may concern the
future of Indian Cricket team ahead of England tour.
On June 28, the manager of Indian cricket Team Girish Dongre wrote an email to the chairmen of
selector Chetan Sharma – as per the Board’s own stipulation – asking for two replacements in the
Indian Squad one has injured Shubmam Gill’s exit and another batsman.
The replacement is taking place primarily for two reasons –
I) due to Gill’s injury a whole vacant slot is left for opening batsmen;
II) Another reason is that the Indian squad will be playing England team for at most Two months and another injury in the top order will heavily cost Indian squad and Quarantine rules won’t allow last minute replacement and travel.
It’s been over a whole week already but Sharma hasn’t responded to the Team Manager email. Many operators asked Sharma If he has got the mail and the Indian Pacer clearly said “you need to speak to the BCCI operational team about it”.
There is too no response from the operational team. The Indian team is worried in England as they are marching ahead as one of the “final frontier”. Those in the know says “even if the BCCI doesn’t want to send replacement why not just spell it out. That way, Virat and the rest of the team can just concentrate on what’s at hands”. The BCCI, not really knows for the communication, remains silent and hasn’t found the time or need to reply the email.
For the records, the letter sent by the team manager has not mentioned the need of this immediate
replacement. The letter only ask for the player replacement and the onus solely lies on the national
selector – Sharma and his colleague to reach at a final decision.
