Responding to Covid-19 | Indefinite lockdown will be more harmful – says Public Health Expert – The TLC News

A group of Public Health Experts out of them two are the part of Government advisory committee to contain the pandemic has said that by enforcing the “indefinite lockdown” would be disruptive. They also added that if the migrants have been sent to their respective home at the beginning of the pandemic, when the spread was very low as compared to the current scenario, then the condition would have been definitely avoided. Now the situation has got worse as they are now carrying the infection to every corner of the country; mostly to the pre-urban and rural areas where the public health system is relatively weak, said by Indian Public Health Association (IPHA), Indian Association of Epidemiologists, and Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM).

The government has announced a series of relaxations on Friday and limited the lockdown to containment zones only until June 30 and certain other relaxations were introduced after June 8. It can be called that the country has been unlocked partially not wholly.

The letter also signifies that “because of the limited information available in the public domain, the government was primarily advised by the academic epidemiologist and clinicians which are having limited field trainings and skills.”

India is paying a heavy price in the terms of humanitarian crisis and the disease spread, according to the experts. The incoherent rapid shifting strategies and the policies at the national level gives a reflection of “catching up” and “afterthought” phenomenon of the policy makers than a well-organized thought with an epidemiologist, they added.

Dr.Sanjay Zodpey, President of IAPSM, Vice-President of Public Health and Dr.D.C.S. former professor & Head of IMS, BHU were among those who were continuously advising the government and offering signatories to the letter. For latest updates, stay tuned to The TLC News
