Sanjeev Chawla’s Disclosure of Imagination, says Advocate

The advocate of Sanjeev Chawla, a prime accused in the 2000 match-fixing scandal called the disclosure statement of his client which was a part of supplementary charge sheet which is submitted to the court as a “figment of imagination of the police.”

“The statement as stated by Sanjeev Chawla on 14/02/2020 as the imagination of police. The statement was never showed to him, thus there are no question of refusing to sign. He saw the document for the very first time when the supplementary copy was served on him,” said by senior advocate Vikas Pahwa.

In the statement Chawla has allegedly mentioned role of mafia in the cricket corruption. The statement clearly said that no cricket was “fairly played” and the game was fixed like a movie which has already been directed by someone. Chawla also said to Delhi Police that “syndicate” had on the target of DCP (crime branch) Dr. G Ram Gopal Naik and the life was also under threat.

Pahwa, the advocate of Chawla said that his client has said no such thing. “He is having no knowledge of any syndicate or the mafia underworld which was mentioned in the document and there is no such threat to him or anybody else.” The advocate also said that his client has also no knowledge of involvement in any kind of match-fixing or being a cricket-bookie.

Delhi Police in the charge sheet says that Chawla remained non-cooperative with the regard of any offence committed by him even confronted with the evidences. This shows his clear involvement in the case. It also said that the “accused has not sign the disclosure statement, even after reading the documents carefully.”

Pahwa said that his clients “denial of all the false allegations which has been interpreted as his guilt which is fruitless.
